Huntsman is a global manufacturer and marketer of differentiated chemicals. Our operating companies manufacture products for a variety of global industries, including chemicals, plastics, automotive, aviation, textiles, footwear, paints and coatings, construction, technology, agriculture, health care, detergent, personal care, furniture, appliances and packaging.

Originally known for pioneering innovations in packaging and, later, for rapid and integrated growth in petrochemicals, Huntsman has approximately 12,000 employees and operates from multiple locations worldwide. The Company had 2013 revenues of over $11 billion.

Message from the Founder and Chairman
More than four decades ago, in 1970, we founded Huntsman Container Corporation. We had no idea then that our fledgeling packaging business would evolve into what has become one of the world’s largest chemical companies. Through a series of strategic acquisitions, joint ventures and carefully planned internal expansions, our operating companies today produce 33 billion pounds of products for a variety of global businesses, including chemicals, plastics, automotive, aviation, footwear, paints and coatings, construction, technology, agriculture, healthcare, textiles, detergent, personal care, furniture, appliances and packaging.

Our success is due, in large measure, to the thousands of associates who work in our facilities around the world to manufacture the chemical industry’s highest quality products.

We have been most fortunate to build a company of this magnitude, and it is our duty and privilege to give back to society. Through our humanitarian initiatives, we have helped to provide food and housing to the hungry and homeless around the world; we have funded education for those who otherwise would not have been able to attend school.

Most importantly, our dream of establishing a world-class cancer research and treatment centre has been realised. The Huntsman Cancer Institute and Hospitals represents our purpose in life, and our ultimate goal will have been achieved when the most challenging forms of cancer have been eradicated. Our family will continue to serve as the principal benefactors and fundraisers for the Huntsman Cancer Institute in the quest to prevent, diagnose, treat and cure cancer.

Our history dates back to 1924, when we were first founded as Elkasan, involved in chemical trading

Organik Kimya was founded in 1965 with the main focus on polymer emulsions and specialty chemicals. Our first investment as Organik Kimya was a 6.000 tons capacity plant for polymer emulsions and textile auxiliaries . Over the years, with our ambition to grow and passion for our business , our production capacity has undergone 5 expansions in the last 28 years, increasing over 30-fold, reaching 200.000 tons/year by 2007.

In addition to our Istanbul Plant our plant in Rotterdam, with a capacity of 80.000 tpa, came onstream in 2007 enabling us to supply the western hemisphere from two key locations. Istanbul, being a very important location of economics and logistics is the base of operations. Our Rotterdam Plant, resides in the huge Botlek chemical complex on Rotterdam Harbour, next to the largest bulk materials terminal in Rotterdam. Both plants are identical in the way they operate, enabling the production processes and quality assurance to be run and optimised simultaneously. The production is controlled by state-of-the-art DCS control systems. Fully automated operation ensures standard quality with every batch, regardless of the reactor or the location of the plant.

Organik Kimya has invested heavily in R&D in recent years and we now have a centralised R&D building, employing over 70 people.

We work closely with customers to give added value to their products and work on joint projects.

Rakem is Silysiamont S.p.A’s UK partner. As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of micronised silica gels, Silysiamont’s SpA’s SYLYSIA brand is distributed into the coating, ink, polymer film and textile industries.

SYLYSIA is a wide range of synthetic, micronized amorphous silica gel different degrees of porosity and high purity. The chemical structure of SYLYSIA is based on Silicon Dioxide SYLYSIA has a sponge-like structure with different degrees of porosity that varies from low (0,4 ml/g) to high ( 1,8 ml/g) pore volumes. SYLYSIA are characterised by high specific surface area (300-700 m2 /g). SYLYSIA is available in a wide range particle size. All these properties are precisely controlled to meet a wide variety of applications available.

SYLYSIA – Micronized particles with high porosity. Sylysia is characterised by large internal surface area with a large number of pores, forming a three-dimensional structure by the silicate.

These properties are precisely controlled to meet a wide variety of applications.

Sylysia has been widely employed as a matting agent for all types of resin paints for wood, industrial and coil coating systems and has recently been proven useful in water-based paints and inks.

Plastic films tend to adhere to each other at the many points of contact; a phenomenon called blocking. Such blocking problems occur in various kinds of plastic films and can be minimised by introducing Sylysia into the formulation. High-speed printing performance also suffers from similar problems. Wet ink printed on film, sheet, or paper transfers onto contact surfaces of other materials that are piled together. Sylysia has proven to be extremely effective in the prevention of ink transfer.
