BLANC FIXE - Established functional additives with potential for improvements.
Presented by Dr. Thomas Sowade, Sachtleben, Duisburg, Germany
Blanc Fixe Products are widely used in the paint and coatings industry for many years. Their range of use varies from a simple inert filler to a real functional additive.
Therefore depending on the desired properties of the coating one can choose between different BaSO4 products (e.g. Sachtleben product range from 15 µm - 0.02 µm, d50 particle size).
One of the general rules is that smaller particles are more difficult to disperse, but show a higher gloss in the applied coating and less settling in the pot.
New developments in Blanc Fixe will be presented, which focus on the improvement of dispersibility and settling behaviour. This gives paint manufacturers the possibility to achieve a better overall end fineness and a reduced grinding time as well as a better stability towards settling.
Thomas Sowade (born in1973) studied technical chemistry in Cologne and Bochum and received his Ph.D. in 2002 in the fields of heterogeneous catalysis.
In 2003 he joined Sachtleben Chemie as Technical Sales Manager for ultrafine products in new applications. Since most of these products were related to the paint and coatings industry in 2004 Thomas Sowade joined the Paint and Coatings Team at Sachtleben as Technical Sales Manager. He has now product responsibility for ultrafine Products and regional technical responsibility for all products for the paint and coatings market.
Lecture starts at 18.30 followed by a complimentary hot buffet.
